Ladli Laxmi scheme
Ladli Laxmi is a scheme recently introduced in Goa by BJP Government.The Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar, in the presence of his cabinet members launched Laadli Laxmi scheme The scheme, which envisages ‘gift’ of Rs 1 lakh for every Goan girl on the occasion of her marriage, and applicable to girls between 18 and 40 years of age, can be availed by brides whose marriage registration has been done on April 1, 2012 and after. The government has made a provision of Rs 150 crore for running this scheme, during the current financial year. The scheme aims towards erasing the general perception that birth of a girl in the family, is a burden on her parents, and in turn, address the undesirable tendency for female foeticides. The government has already made it clear that the particular scheme should not be misunderstood or constructed as an encouragement to the practice of giving dowry in any way.
The benefit will be provided to every eligible girl in the state without consideration of caste, creed, religion and even financial status of the parents of the girl would not be taken into account, while considering the applications for the scheme.
